Walinga Cyrus, a Senior Five student at Nyondo Senior Secondary School, has always been a beacon of excellence and determination. Known for being the best student at every level, he shares his journey and the unexpected turn his life took in 2013.
"I believe I can be the best. The requirements are so demanding in the higher classes, but if you have the foundation at this level (mine), then it becomes somehow easier in the higher classes. I always wanted to be the best."
A Sudden Change
Walinga’s story took a dramatic turn in 2013 during his primary seven entries. “My life changes in a blink of an eye when I suddenly fall unconscious! I am rushed to the hospital, and the doctors are focused on saving my life. Fortunately, they succeeded, but I was left paralyzed. According to the doctors, my spinal cord has something that needs to be removed for me to regain my abilities, but the surgery can only be performed outside the country” Says Walinga.
Dreams Put on Hold
Despite his medical challenges, Walinga’s dream of becoming an engineer remains alive. “With each passing day, that dream fades further and further. I feel like I can go on, but I also feel like I have reached a point where I need help. This is why I decided to reach out to Keddi Foundation for help, and I believe you’re here because you are serving humanity.”
Current Challenges
Walinga’s current challenges are significant: “The main challenges I’m facing are transport because I cannot walk, school fees, and accommodation.”
Keddi Foundation’s Visit to Nyendo SS

Moved by Walinga’s touching story, Keddi Foundation has stepped in with significant support. The foundation has contributed a sum of Twenty Million Shillings and has undertaken the construction of the Keddi Foundation Memorial Building. This facility will house teachers and students, improving their wellbeing. It will also include ramps for physically incapacitated individuals, showcasing the foundation’s commitment to humanitarian work and support for the government and society.
Hon. Dr. Keddi Steven Zuluba, the visionary behind Keddi Foundation, emphasizes, “Keddi Foundation tells people that they can make it in life regardless of their backgrounds and environments.”
